HikeFit : The GirlsTrek dedicated fitness program

Every GirlsTrek includes a specific training program to help prepare your fitness to meet the level required for the trip you have choosen with us. Follow our training program and feel confident that you will gain the most out of your time away with us. We will make contact with you individually throughout your program to ensure you are on track and enjoying your training!

For Girl Trekkers who live in Brisbane we have a weekly session at  Mt Coot-tha. We welcome all comers, whether you are on a trip with us or not, to join in on our 2 hour trek-style training sessions held every Saturday.

HikeFit is a great fitness regime and does wonders for reducing stress after the working week. Start your weekend in the best possible way with an invigorating bush walk on the city’s doorstep. The sessions combine trek interval training with endurance and include a different focus each week including balance, core, upper body strength and leg strength.

The sessions cater for ALL levels of fitness. Your time to start with us is now!

How do I pay?
You can either pay casually $20 cash on the day or purchase a 10 pass online

First time? Complete your GirlTrekker form 

NOTE: HikeFit Passes are valid for six months from first visit.

What to Wear/Bring?
A good pair of training shoes (boots are not a necessity) back pack with water (at least 2 Litres), cap and towel. We can assist you with purchasing suitable gear if required.

Trekking Levels*
Please note that with our HikeFit programme we will help you achieve these levels of fitness required to undertake our trips. The levels are not required as a starting point to do our trips. We will help you get there!
Level 1 – Gentle: You can walk 3 days per week for one hour on flat terrain with no difficulty
Level 2 – Easy: You can walk 3 days per week for one hour on hilly terrain with no difficulty
Level 3 – Moderate: You can walk 4 – 5 days per week on a variety of hills, stairs and flat. You will be able to walk for 3 hours without taking a break carrying at least 5 kgs in a backpack
Level 4 – Challenging: You can walk long distances of 3 hour or more a couple of times a week carrying up to 10 kgs. You can manage steep terrain as well as tougher climatic conditions (wind/rain/cold)
Level 5 – Tough: You have a regular training programme of endurance and strength training. You can comfortably sustain 6 hour days of walking carrying at least 15 kgs on rough and steep trails.

* These are GirlsTrek own trekking levels. They are based on Australian National Park Standards.
