Queensland Walking and Wine
5 days / 4 nights
South Burnett Wine Region
An easy drive from Brisbane the Bunya Mountains rise abruptly from the surrounding plains to an average elevation of 975m reaching over 1100m above sea level at Mount Mowbullan and Mount Kiangarow. The range features panoramic mountain scenery and breathtaking views over the South Burnett region and Darling Downs plains. Prolific bird life and sweet wallabies inhabit this natural treasure trove. Due to the height of the Bunya Mountains,it is generally at least 5 – 7 degrees cooler than the surrounding plains all year round. The immense subtropical range of cool, green rainforest, eucalypt forests and woodlands is home to the world’s largest forest of bunya pines. Dome shaped bunya pines graciously raise their majestic heads above the forest canopy crowning a magnificent green splendour. High altitude grasslands include rare grasses of international interest.
After our time trekking we travel to the South Burnett Wine Region to visit with the local producers and enjoy a long winery lunch. In the evening a visit to the Kingaroy Observatory is an opportunity to explore the wonders of the night sky.
