The Perfect Girls Getaway
It was not until I became a mother did I begin to appreciate the absolute compulsory health requirement of a girls getaway. After too many unfinished sentences due to the needs of small children, and a sense of self which resembled that of a tired pidgeon, the need to be away with a gang of girls becomes not a want, but a need. To me, there are some basic quintessential elements of a girls getaway. To tick all the very important boxes you need; fun friends to be with, fun stuff to do, freedom from schedules (and the kitchen), delicious food to eat, champagne to celebrate with (this is a non-negotiable), a chance to dress up, clean crispy sheets to retire to at the end of the day and time together with no distractions.
On Australia’s eastern board there are three destinations that nail the brief for the perfect girls getaway: Noosa (QLD), Blue Mountains (NSW), and Mornington Peninsula (VIC).
Let’s start with Noosa.
A perfect girls getaway day for me in this piece of Queensland paradise would start with a morning hike through the Noosa National Park on the coastal track out to Hell’s Gate. For those looking to get extra kilometres under your feet, there are a labyrinth of trails to explore that can extend your morning exercise. Reward yourself afterwards with a swim at Noosa’s world-famous beach, followed by a coffee at Sails. The scene is picture perfect and could not be a more perfect set up for your girls getaway.
There are plenty of girls getaway accommodation options between Noosa beach, the Junction or along the Noosa River. Peppers Resort sits high above Main beach and Hastings Street and offers a shuttle service to and from the beach for those who have had enough cardio for one day. One tempting option is to grab your breakfast at the resort, another is to make you way down to the Junction for some wholefood’s goodness at Vanilla Food Organic Café. When breakfast is done, you have the day to indulge with time at the beach or a spa treatment as, in Noosa, your girls getaway group is spoilt for day spa choices with three large centres dotted around the area. Sensaura is closest to Hastings Street however there are great options at Noosa River (the Day Spa) or Lake Weyba (The Noosa Spa). Of course, a girls getaway would not be complete without a delicious meal overlooking the ocean. Book in early for a spot a Bistro C and enjoy a round of sunset cocktails before dinning on their Modern Australian cuisine.
The Beautiful Blue Mountains
Only a quick trip from Sydney, your girls getaway will be welcomed with the subtle and soothing sounds of nature. Beautiful scenic bushwalks coupled with birdsong make this holiday for the girls a relaxing and calming break from busy everyday life. One highly recommended hike in the area is the Grand Canyon which is near the small town of Blackheath. This stunning 5 km circuit walk will take you back to prehistoric times as the ‘canyon’ was carved by sea water in Gondwana times. All girls getaways need the release of unrushed chatting and, other than over a drink, the best way to chat is while you walk through a truly beautiful part of the world. It’s lovely to take a healthy, hearty lunch with you on a hike so it’s smart to stop by Altitude Deli in Blackheath for something more substantial, and Blackheath Vege Patch for a piece of fruit to snack on as you go.
At dinner time, a gorgeous girls getaway treat is the degustation menu at Pins on Lurline. A family owned and run business, in a heritage house in Katoomba with a carefully chosen, locally sourced, seasonally adjusted menu. The team a Pins are a delight and the atmosphere cosy. Visiting the Blue Mountains in the cooler months means welcoming the evenings by a fireplace especially if you choose to stay at Lilianfels in Katoomba where the yester-year decor lures to stylish yet comfy couch set ups around a crackling fire. The Lilianfels staff will organise your drinks and settle you in for a calm end to an amazing day.
After a great night’s sleep at Lilianfels, start your morning off with a coffee at Cassiopeia Coffee Katoomba for the caffeine and energy kick you’ll need to enjoy your girls getaway to the absolute fullest.
The iconic Mornington Peninsula.
Amongst the vineyards, a girls getaway to Mornington Peninsula puts you smack-bang in the middle of one of Victoria’s most beautiful regions. A complete crowd pleaser, there is something to suit everyone in Mornington Peninsula with incredible views, wine, food, nature immersive hikes along an iconic coastline and so much more. The cool climate makes it an ideal wine region, set to please the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay lovers. So, gather the girls for a sophisticated yet casual girls getaway just an hour and a half south of Melbourne.
To fuel up during a full day of seeing everything Mornington Peninsula has to offer, visit Montalto for a ‘feed me lunch’ which is a banquet style dining experience to enjoy with wines from both the local region and around the world, or, stroll through the sculpture park at Point Leo Estate and indulge at Polperro with a mouth-watering degustation menu. To end a day well spent, visit the Peninsula Hot Springs and relax with a glass of champagne as you enjoy a European style spa experience. Stay in Sorrento, a small and friendly town with a rich history. There are plenty of things to do in Sorreto to occupy your time including a selection of sweet boutiques to browse through with everything from homewares to clothes and shoes. If the steps you get in from a few hours shopping isn’t enough, hike the Coastal track for an unmatched ocean view and a breath of cool fresh air. You can also visit Point Nepean and enjoy learning about and looking at the historic buildings of Fort Nepean while taking in the picturesque surroundings.
I created GirlsTrek during the ‘tired pidgeon’ period of my life. The elements of the perfect girls getaway are close to my heart and I can guarantee they are the best prescription to reenergise your soul! We love to visit all these regions and have three and four days trips that are designed to be the perfect girls getaway.
